Expressionism

Expressionism is a cultural movement initially in poetry and painting

It is originating in Germany at the start of the 20th century. Its typical trait is to present the world under an utterly subjective perspective, violently distorting it to obtain an emotional effect and vividly transmit personal moods and ideas.

Expressionist artists sought to express the meaning of "being alive" and emotional experience rather than physical reality
.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Expressionism is exhibited in many art forms

-painting
-literature
-theatre

-dance

-film
-architecture
-music

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is where expressionist art begins.

Expressionist art is a style that originated in Germany in the early 20th century.

A group of German artists used this term to describe their art and its aesthetic principles. The original group of German expressionist painters was known as "The Bridge," and they asserted that the value of one's emotional experience was a measure of one's moral and artistic values. Expressionists were also known at this time for opposing the traditional teachings of art.

The subjects of expressionist works were frequently distorted/ exaggerate

Landmarks of this movement were:

Violent colors and exaggerated lines that helped contain intense emotional expression.
Application of formal elements is vivid, jarring, violent, or dynamic.
Expressionist were trying to pinpoint the expression of inner experience rather than solely realistic portrayal, seeking to depict not objective reality but the subjective emotions and responses that objects and events arouse in them.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As said in the previous post, i'll apply expressionism into my work to bring out the
expression of inner experience.

EXPRESSING EMOTIONS IN ARTWORK

There are many ways to express our emotions beside physically.

One of the way to express emotions are by art.

These way had exist since prehistorical ages when men live in cave and wear like barbarians. One of the earliest paintings that exist are :

CAVE PAINTINGS

The history continues. Here is the link about history of art in details.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An artwork can tell stories or depict ideas; it can be realistic or abstract.

However, for some people, the most important issue in art is that it expresses or stirs emotions. Art can be a record of what the artist is feeling and, at the same time, it can bring about emotional reactions in the viewer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This type of art has been called
:

"Expressionist Art"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Artists make choices about :
-color
-line, texture

-composition to evoke or express feelings.

Sometimes this leads to abstracting a subject to make it more expressive.
In the 1950s, a group of American artists referred to as Abstract Expressionists believed that :

"the best way to express pure emotions was to create nonobjective or totally abstract artworks in which colors, lines, shapes, and textures directly conveyed their emotional state."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think that all these kind of art is the best way to express emotions. I'll apply abstract style to my artwork with colors, lines, shapes, and textures to bring out more emotional state.

CAPTIONS

After some research, i had come out with a few captions. Most of them are from advertisement.

Here they are =

Just do it (enthusiasm)
Have it your way (confidence)
Have a coke & smile (happiness)
Try it,You'll love it (excitement)
Share moments,share life (happiness)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The caption i will use is :

"Just do it"

I choose this because it is motivating and has enthusiasm value. Besides that, this caption is short and straight to the point. I think this caption can create a motivating artwork to create enthusiasm in people.

EMOTIONS

WHAT ARE EMOTIONS?

Emotions are very complex experiences

We use a great variety of terms, besides gestures and attitudes
to express them,
In fact, as good poets show us, we could use all the words of a dictionary to express different emotions.

Therefore, due to the infinite extension of emotional phenomena, it is impossible to make a full description of all the emotions that we can experience. However, the usual vocabulary to describe emotions is quite reduced and so, it allows people with the same cultural background, to share them. In the following chart are shown several emotions, positive and negative.
